European Partnership for Fruits, Vegetables and Better Health (EPBH)

Objectives
Assisting members to increase the Europeans intake of fruits and vegetables by:
1. Facilitating exchange of documentation and experience on efficient strategies and actions to increase the intake fruits and vegetables
2. Facilitating collaboration and coordination of research activities on fruit and vegetable promotion across Europe
3. Formulating and communicating suggestions for policy changes on both national and European level
4. Suggesting and coordinating pan European promotions and actions
5. Stimulating national partnerships between health partners and organizations representing the fruit and vegetable industry.

Members
One health or fruit and vegetable promoting body from each of the following European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Czech Republic, The Slovak Republic, Turkey and United Kingdom.

Members should ideally be representing both health organisations and non-profit organizations representing the fruit and vegetable industry including growers, importers, shippers, processors, wholesalers and retailers.

Member states are encouraged to form ONE organizational body that represents both health and produce industry no later than mid 2007. Until then only one health or one industry member can represent one country.

Organization
European Partnership for Fruits, Vegetables and Better Health (EPBH) is a voluntary network leaving full integrity on all decisions to Member states. The only obligation on members is that of sharing information and strategies with other members.

EPBH has no office and staff. Staff can be hired on specific actions when necessary and funding is provided.

Communication between members is mainly done electronically via the e-mail and Internet.

There is at present no fee for becoming a member. If more than one organization from health or industry body applies for membership from one country, this issue needs to be resolved locally.

The network will start operating by May 6th 2003. Applications for membership will be accepted via e-mail to membership@epbh.org.
